FORCES MUTUAL - Vote For Your Forces Hero

To celebrate this Armed Forces Day, we have given the Forces Family a chance to nominate their everyday Forces Heroes and be in with the chance of winning a share of over £1,000.

We’ve had an amazing response so far and have received some truly inspiring nominations, and although it wasn’t an easy task whittling down a long list of heroes, after much consideration, we have finally drawn up a shortlist of nominations which has now gone to a public vote.

We would love to reach out to as many people as possible as everyone who votes will automatically be placed into a £50 prize draw, so it would be fantastic if you could promote our Salute your everyday Forces Hero competition on your blog and social media pages.

I have attached an image that you are more than welcome to use to accompany your posts.

Please include the below link to our voting page:

AFF FIRE SAFETY - Information

AFF reassured about housing safety for Army families

Following the tragic incident at Grenfell Tower in London, the Army families Federation (AFF) has approached the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), to clarify whether multi-storey Service Families Accommodation (SFA) features any external cladding, which would potentially present a fire risk.

Safety assured
DIO checked the position of this issue and were able to inform AFF that multi-storey buildings are predominantly brick construction. The external wall insulation used on recent energy efficiency upgrades to military housing has also been confirmed as meeting all relevant building and fire regulations.

AFF Housing Specialist Cat Calder said, “Ensuring the safety of our Army families is paramount and AFF has received assurances of safety from all relevant parties involved. DIO has also advised us that a review will now be carried out of all non-habitable areas such as stairwells, plant rooms and communal areas, to confirm the safety of the Army families living there.”

Funding boost makes Theatre’s historic archive more accessible

A project to make the archives of The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire, even more accessible to the public is getting underway this summer thanks to a £3,000 grant from the Association of Independent Museums (AIM).

The funding will enable a large number of items from the Theatre’s archive to be transferred from their current storage in opaque, acid-free tissue paper to new transparent sleeves in order to facilitate easy viewing. The Georgian Theatre Royal is the UK’s oldest working theatre in its original form and houses hundreds of important artefacts, including 18th and 19th century playbills, posters, programmes, prints and books.
